LIST OF DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR FILING YOUR TAXES

As every year from February until April 30 , all persons living in Canada are required to file an income tax return .

To file your income tax return, you will need to gather several documents. These documents will allow us to properly analyze your financial situation and claim all the deductions and credits to which you are entitled . Please ensure you have all relevant tax slips and receipts before your appointment.

First, please ensure you have a valid social security number.

Here is a short, non-exhaustive list of the different documents that could apply to your situation:

1. The T2202 form (Certificate for tuition and registration fees) You will need this document if you were enrolled in school during the tax year. Your school will have provided you with the form; otherwise, you must contact them to obtain it.

2. The T2202 slip : Like the T2202 slip, this slip must be provided by all individuals who have attended school. This slip is only available to individuals residing in the province of Quebec.

3. The T4 slip : If you are a salaried employee, the T4 Statement of Remuneration Paid is a summary of your employment income and tax deductions for the year. This slip is issued by your employer.

4. The RL-1 slip (for employment income) : If you worked in the province of Quebec, your employer will give you the RL-1 slip in addition to the T4 slip.

3. The T4A slip : This slip is used for several sources of income. You may need a T4A slip if you received a scholarship during the year or if you received retirement income.

If you received the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) or other COVID-19 benefits from the CRA, you will receive a T4A slip . Quebec residents will receive a T4A and a Relevé 1 slip.

4. The RL-31 slip for Quebec residents (or rent payment summary given to the tenant by the landlord): This slip is only given to tenants residing in Quebec. The RL-31 slip is used to claim the Solidarity Tax Credit. If you reside in Quebec, please ask your landlord to provide you with this document.

5. If you have made investments, your financial institution will send you one of the following documents: Interest, dividends, mutual funds (T3/RL-16, T5/RL-3, T5008/RL-18, RL10 (investment))

6. Donation receipts :

7. Property tax payment receipt (if you are a homeowner)

8. Cadastral number if you are a property owner in Quebec

6. Last year's federal and provincial notice of assessment : You will only receive this document if you have already filed an income tax return in the past.

7. Depending on your situation, other documents may apply.
